Teddi Mellencamp, known for her time on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, is facing a lawsuit from a former housekeeper who accuses her of racism, abuse of power, and wage theft. The lawsuit comes as Mellencamp receives widespread sympathy due to her ongoing battle with brain tumors.
Julia Umana, a former live-in nanny and housekeeper, claims in legal documents obtained by TMZ that Mellencamp made her job unbearable. Umana alleges she was overworked, underpaid, and treated worse than white employees in the household.
According to the lawsuit, Mellencamp accused Umana of theft despite having security cameras in the home and never made similar accusations against a white, blonde employee. Umana, an immigrant from El Salvador, also claims Mellencamp mocked her for speaking Spanish and used a harsh tone when addressing her, unlike with white staff members.
After enduring what she describes as a hostile work environment, Umana says she decided to resign. However, she alleges Mellencamp pressured her into working three more 12-hour shifts for just $325. When she complained about the unfair pay, she claims she was fired on the spot.
Now, Umana is suing Mellencamp for wrongful termination, unpaid wages, and racial discrimination, seeking more than $2 million in damages.
Mellencamp has not yet publicly responded to the lawsuit.
