Patricia Arquette Reveals Ex-Husband Broke Their ‘Garlic Pact’ for Love Scenes

Patricia Arquette recently shared a funny yet frustrating story about her past marriage during a game of Hot Ones Versus with Severance co-star Adam Scott. The Oscar-winning actress revealed that she and her then-husband made a pact to eat garlic before filming love scenes—only for him to completely disregard it when it was his turn.

“I was married to somebody at the time, and we were very young and impressionable,” Arquette recalled. “We made a deal that we were going to eat garlic if we had to do love scenes, so I ate garlic before I had to kiss Ewan McGregor.” She even apologized to McGregor, explaining that she had promised her husband she would do it.

But when the tables turned, Arquette was in for a surprise. “Then he had to do a love scene, and I asked, ‘Well, did you eat garlic?’ He’s like, ‘I thought we were kidding.’ I was like, ‘What?!’”

Although Arquette didn’t name her ex, the Hot Ones video featured red carpet photos of her with Nicolas Cage, to whom she was married from 1995 to 2001. During that time, she starred alongside McGregor in the 1997 horror film Nightwatch, suggesting this was the film in question.

Nightwatch followed McGregor as a law student working as a night security guard who gets caught up in a serial killer’s twisted game. The movie also starred Josh Brolin, Lauren Graham, and Nick Nolte.

While Arquette’s story was lighthearted, it’s safe to say she wasn’t thrilled about her ex breaking their quirky agreement!
