According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Fulton claims Cage ignored their son’s ongoing mental health issues and even enabled his reckless behavior leading up to the April 28, 2024, incident. The lawsuit, filed in the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County, accuses Cage of failing to intervene despite being fully aware of Weston's troubled past.
The Alleged Assault
Fulton, 57, and Weston, 33, reportedly got into a verbal dispute that quickly turned physical at Weston's condo building. Initially, Fulton denied reports of an argument, instead describing the event as a “mental health crisis” and emphasizing that she was trying to get her son the help he needed.
In July 2024, Weston was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. After his release on bond, Fulton spoke out, stating she had been "brutally assaulted" and stressing the urgency for her son to receive proper mental health treatment.
Fulton's Claims Against Cage
Fulton, who was married to Cage from 1995 until their divorce in 2001, alleges that the Longlegs star, now 61, repeatedly failed to take necessary action to prevent his son's violent behavior.
“Weston has a long history of mental and psychological disorder and a history of committing violent assault and battery,” the lawsuit states. “Nicolas has been aware of Weston's history and nevertheless failed to take action to prevent Weston from committing acts of violence and harming others.”
The suit further alleges that Cage not only bailed Weston out of jail multiple times but also drank alcohol with him, despite knowing his history of substance abuse. It claims that Cage paid for Weston's downtown Los Angeles condo—conveniently located next to his own—and failed to ensure that his son received necessary psychiatric care.
Fulton's Injuries and Career Fallout
Fulton says the attack left her with severe injuries, including a brain concussion, multiple contusions, a disfiguring eye injury, dental trauma, PTSD, and lasting psychological damage. She claims she has required extensive medical care, surgeries, and treatments since the incident.
Beyond her physical injuries, Fulton argues that the attack derailed her career. She was reportedly filming a Netflix series at the time but was unable to continue due to her injuries. She also missed brand promotion events, suffered reputational harm, and faced setbacks with her fashion brand, Cyclish. The lawsuit claims a multi-million-dollar business opportunity was jeopardized as a result of the attack.
What Fulton Wants
Fulton is suing Cage for negligent supervision and negligent undertaking. She is also suing Weston for assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligent infliction of emotional distress. Additionally, she is pursuing negligence claims against both father and son.
While the lawsuit does not specify the exact amount of damages sought, Fulton is requesting compensation for medical expenses, lost income, and other costs related to her ordeal.
What’s Next?
Neither Cage nor Weston has publicly responded to the lawsuit yet. Given the serious allegations and the high-profile nature of the case, this legal battle could turn into a major Hollywood courtroom showdown.
