Michael B. Jordan is standing firm in his belief that Marvel Studios will bounce back despite its recent struggles. In a recent interview with GQ, the actor—who famously portrayed Erik Killmonger in Black Panther—shared his optimism for the franchise’s future.
“[Marvel’s] doing great,” Jordan stated. “They’ll get it back.”
Marvel has faced mixed results in recent years. While Deadpool & Wolverine broke records, previous releases like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels underperformed, leading to concerns about the studio’s trajectory. Adding to the uncertainty, Captain America: Brave New World recently received lackluster reviews, scoring just 53% on Rotten Tomatoes.
One project Jordan is particularly eager to see materialize is Marvel’s long-delayed Blade movie. Originally announced in 2019 with Mahershala Ali set to star as the vampire hunter, the film has seen multiple setbacks, including changes in writers and directors. Most recently, director Yann Demange left the project in June 2024, further delaying its progress.
“Launching any franchise is tough,” Jordan acknowledged. “I hope it gets together. I want to see a Blade movie, you know what I’m saying? The Blade franchise was everything.”
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has reassured fans that Blade is still a priority. “We are committed to Blade,” Feige said during the D23 Brazil 2024 event. “We love the character. We love Mahershala’s take on him. And rest assured: whenever we change direction with a project, or are still figuring out how it fits into our schedule, we let the audience know.”
Though the film is currently off Marvel’s release calendar, Feige remains confident that Ali’s Blade will eventually find his place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For now, fans—and Jordan—will have to wait and see if Marvel can get the project back on track.
