“I went to this doctor … My wife took me to do that because she said, ‘Something about your personality doesn’t feel like it’s bipolar,’” Ye explained. “And I’ve come to find that it’s really a case of autism that I have.”
Ye Reflects on Past Behavior
Ye suggested that his autism diagnosis helps explain some of his past actions, including his controversial support for Donald Trump in 2018. He recalled how his insistence on wearing a Make America Great Again hat was an example of his hyperfocus.
“When fans tell me to do my album a certain way, I’ll do it the opposite way,” he added, referencing his hit song Can’t Tell Me Nothing.
While autism is not a mental illness and does not require medication, Ye revealed that he stopped taking meds after realizing bipolar disorder wasn’t his correct diagnosis. “It’s finding stuff that doesn’t block the creativity. That’s what I bring to the world,” he said.
New Album Bully Drops on North West’s Birthday
Ye also announced that his upcoming album, Bully, will be released on June 15—his daughter North West’s birthday. He described the project as his version of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and revealed he has reconciled with longtime producer Mike Dean.
He cited the White Stripes as an influence, particularly their hit Seven Nation Army, which inspired the chant-like sound of Black Skinhead and All Day.
Thoughts on Kendrick vs. Drake Feud
Weighing in on the rap battle between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, Ye admitted he was surprised by Lamar’s dominance. “I was like: man, [Lamar] killed my nemesis!” he said. Still, he praised Drake’s contributions to hip-hop, calling him a game-changer.
“If you don’t really learn as a professional rapper, as a sport, what Kendrick is doing, you might be wiped out,” Ye warned.
Grammy Controversy
Ye also made headlines at the Grammys, where he appeared alongside Bianca Censori, who wore a sheer minidress. Some critics accused Ye of controlling her fashion choices, but he dismissed the claims.
“We tailored that invisible dress six times and just like magic—poof—we disappeared,” he wrote on X, emphasizing her “rightful strength.”
While Grammy executive producer Raj Kapoor acknowledged that the awards have an “artistic black tie” dress code, he noted that attendees have more freedom in their fashion choices compared to performers.
With his new diagnosis, album, and ongoing controversies, Ye continues to be a headline-making force in entertainment.
