During a recent Twitch live stream with popular streamer xQc, Smith spilled some exciting details about "Hancock 2." While the project hasn’t been officially announced, Smith gave fans a juicy tidbit: Zendaya is being considered for a role in the sequel.
“There’s a really cool, really cool ‘Hancock 2’ idea,” Smith revealed. “We haven’t even talked about it so I’m gonna give you one little piece—Zendaya is being approached for a role in ‘Hancock 2.’”
Naturally, this revelation set the internet buzzing. Zendaya, who has won two Emmys for her role in HBO’s hit series "Euphoria," is already a powerhouse in Hollywood. If she joins the film, it would be a major addition to the long-awaited sequel.
A Look Back at ‘Hancock’
Released in 2008, "Hancock" was a unique take on the superhero genre, starring Smith as an amnesiac, alcoholic hero whose reckless actions cause as much destruction as the villains he fights. When he saves a married couple (played by Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron), they help him clean up his image and uncover his past.
Directed by Peter Berg ("Deepwater Horizon," "Patriots Day") and co-written by Vy Vincent Ngo and "Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan, "Hancock" was a massive hit. The film grossed over $600 million worldwide on a $150 million budget, making it a commercial success despite mixed reviews.
Will ‘Hancock 2’ Finally Happen?
This isn’t the first time a "Hancock" sequel has been rumored. Back in 2009, Berg told MTV News that "everybody’s going to come back for a sequel." However, over the years, interest seemed to fade. In 2020, Theron admitted to ComicBook that while she’d love to return, talks had stalled. "If there was ever a moment where somebody came to me and said, ‘We have a great idea for this,’ I would be in a heartbeat,” she said.
Sony, which produced the original film, has yet to comment on any official sequel plans.
What’s Next for Smith and Zendaya?
Smith, who won an Academy Award for "King Richard" (in the same ceremony where he controversially slapped Chris Rock), has been working on various film and TV projects. Meanwhile, Zendaya has been dominating Hollywood with roles in "Euphoria" and "Dune." With production on "Euphoria" Season 3 already underway, her schedule is packed—but a big superhero role could be an exciting new chapter for her.
For now, fans will have to wait and see if "Hancock 2" gets the green light. But with Smith teasing new details and Zendaya possibly on board, this sequel could be one to watch!
