Dua Lipa Mourns Duolingo’s Mascot: “Til’ Death Duo Part”

Dua Lipa is heartbroken after the unexpected "death" of Duolingo’s beloved mascot, the green owl. The language-learning app announced the shocking news on Tuesday (Feb. 11), jokingly stating, “Authorities are currently investigating his cause of death and we are cooperating fully. Tbh, he probably died waiting for you to do your lesson, but what do we know?”

Duolingo’s statement ended with a humorous nod to Lipa, saying, “We appreciate you respecting Dua Lipa’s privacy at this time.” The owl has long been known for its playful obsession with the pop star, making the connection all the more fitting.

Lipa responded to the news with a witty tribute on X, writing, “Til’ death duo part” alongside a heartbreak emoji. The Grammy-winning singer has previously expressed her passion for learning languages, telling Rolling Stone she hopes to master several by the time she turns 35. “I get so jealous when people are speaking in French, or Spanish, or Italian… I just want to respond,” she shared.

The owl’s “death” has sparked widespread reactions online, with fans flooding social media with theories and tributes. When asked if there was a suspect in the case, Duolingo playfully hinted at a Canadian rapper being investigated.

While the owl’s fate remains a mystery, one thing is certain—his legacy in language learning (and meme culture) lives on.
