Sebastian Stan Hints at Becoming the Next Captain America in the MCU

Sebastian Stan has sparked fresh rumors about his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, suggesting that Bucky Barnes might soon pick up the iconic shield of Captain America. Stan, who first portrayed Bucky alongside Chris Evans' Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), recently teased this possibility at Tokyo Comic-Con.

During the event, Stan playfully lifted Captain America's shield and said, "Not Captain America... yet." This comment quickly ignited speculation that Bucky could eventually take on the mantle, following Sam Wilson's current role in Captain America: Brave New World. In the comics, Bucky briefly became Captain America after Steve Rogers' death, before Sam Wilson took up the shield in an alternate storyline.

Although the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier skipped over Bucky’s time as Captain America, Stan’s recent comment has many fans hopeful that he could suit up for the role in an upcoming MCU movie, such as Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.

Reflecting on his time as Bucky, Stan shared how much he’s enjoyed seeing the character evolve alongside his own personal growth. "It's always been fun for me to come back to him after all these years because you're growing as a person, and then the character ends up growing," Stan said. He added that he never expected Bucky's journey to reach such heights but found it exciting to see the way the character has developed.

Stan's career has been on the rise, with standout performances in 2024’s The Apprentice and A Different Man. His growing success could lead to even more opportunities within the MCU. Fans can catch him next in Thunderbolts, hitting theaters on May 5, 2025, alongside a star-studded cast that includes Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Wyatt Russell.

As rumors swirl about Bucky's future, it seems Stan’s role in the MCU might be far from over, leaving fans eager for what's next.
