The Vampire Diaries star shared on Instagram that she evacuated her house on January 9, her birthday, as flames approached. While her property was spared, Dobrev expressed heartbreak for those less fortunate.
“I have been absolutely sick to my stomach with all the destruction and devastation,” Dobrev said in an emotional video. “So many families have been displaced, and I don’t know about you, but I have been feeling survivor’s guilt.”
The actress urged her followers to join her in helping victims of the fires. She shared a Google spreadsheet in her Instagram bio listing families who lost their homes and encouraged donations.
“For my birthday this year, I donated to families on that list, and it would be my birthday wish for you to do the same,” she said. “Every contribution, big or small, can help them rebuild their lives.”
The Los Angeles wildfires began on January 7 in the Pacific Palisades and spread across the region, leaving at least 27 people dead and countless homes destroyed. Many Hollywood stars also lost their properties in the disaster.
Dobrev highlighted the struggles of marginalized groups, particularly Black families in the Altadena-Pasadena area, who were hit hard by the fires. “The journey of healing is a long one,” she said, “and I’m sending so much love to everyone affected.”
She closed her message by encouraging people to provide financial aid to those in need. “What people really need right now is help to get back on their feet,” Dobrev added.
