Appearing via video on Thursday, Megan told the court, “I want my restraining order because I haven’t been at peace since I was shot.” Her emotional testimony described how the ordeal has left her anxious and unable to enjoy normal life, with fans shouting "Free Tory" during her concerts adding to her distress.
Megan had previously filed a request last month, accusing Lanez of engaging in "psychological warfare" by allegedly paying bloggers to spread defamatory content about her. She even claimed that one blogger was being funded through Lanez’s father.
The judge deemed the situation serious enough to grant the restraining order, which mandates that Lanez must stay at least 100 yards away from Megan, her home, workplace, or vehicle. While this may be straightforward since Lanez is serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting Megan, the order also prohibits him from contacting her in any way—whether directly or indirectly—and from disturbing her peace.
Lanez’s attorneys argued that the restraining order infringes on his free speech rights, but the judge was unconvinced.
