Kristin Davis Reveals Real-Life Drama of Loaning $5,000 to a Boyfriend Who Ghosted Her

It sounds like something straight out of Sex and the City, but for Kristin Davis, it was real life. The actress, best known for playing Charlotte York, recently opened up on her podcast Are You a Charlotte? about a relationship that took a wrong turn after she loaned her then-boyfriend $5,000.

Davis shared the story while chatting with guest Sarah Wynter, who appeared in the pilot of Sex and the City. Reflecting on the relationship, Davis admitted she had been dating an out-of-work actor who was struggling financially. She recalled seeing unpaid bill notices scattered around his home and deciding to step in when he wrecked his motorcycle.

"I just felt like, I can help, I should help this guy. He’s so talented—which he is," Davis said. But her kind gesture backfired. After lending him the money, he disappeared.

Davis described how the dynamic between them shifted immediately. "It changed the dynamic in a horrible way... I lent him this money, and then, you know, he stops calling," she said.

Frustrated, Davis went to his apartment to confront him, only to be met with silence—though his dog was inside. Later, he called to confirm it had been her at the door, leaving Davis feeling embarrassed.

Looking back, the actress had a clear piece of advice for her listeners: "Do not loan money to someone you’re dating. It doesn’t end well."

Though the experience still stings, Davis shared that she doesn’t plan to chase him down for repayment. "He lives out in the country with some children, so I don’t think I want to show up there," she joked.

Kristin Davis’ Sex and the City character Charlotte York will return later this year in the third season of And Just Like That. Meanwhile, new episodes of her podcast drop weekly, offering more candid and relatable stories from the star.
