Ke Huy Quan Eyes Villainous Role: "I Want to Be a Bond Villain"

After his Oscar-winning comeback in Everything Everywhere All at Once, Ke Huy Quan has set his sights on an unexpected challenge—a villainous role.

In a recent interview with Empire, Quan revealed his dream of stepping into the shoes of a diabolical character, citing the James Bond franchise and Hugh Grant’s performance in Heretic as his inspirations. “I would love to play a bad guy. Like a Bond villain or the kind of thing Hugh Grant does in Heretic,” he shared. “I want to go out of my comfort zone and play this really bad, diabolical guy. That would be a lot of fun.”

Quan, who started his career as a child actor and later worked behind the scenes choreographing stunts for films like X-Men (2000) and The One (2001), is eager to expand his range. “I don’t want to be perceived as an action star,” he explained. “I want to be seen as an actor who does action well. The beauty of acting is getting to play a variety of characters.”

His recent roles highlight that versatility. Quan starred as the endearing Waymond in Everything Everywhere All at Once and now plays retired hitman-turned-realtor Marvin Gable in Love Hurts, set to premiere on February 7. Up next, Quan will star in the Lionsgate action thriller Fairytale in New York, portraying a cab driver who takes on a gang of criminals to retrieve his children’s stolen Christmas presents.

With his passion for pushing boundaries, Quan’s fans can expect even more memorable performances in the future. Could a Bond villain be next? Only time will tell.
