Kate Winslet Reveals Her Unexpected Fear of Cows and Her Husband's Quirky Apple Phobia

Kate Winslet may seem fearless on screen, but in real life, she has an unusual fear—cows. During a recent interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the Titanic star admitted she finds bovines intimidating.

"I'm honestly not brilliant with cows," Winslet shared when asked about the scariest animal. Her apprehension stems from a conversation where someone warned her about reading a cow’s body language. "If their tails are swishing and flies are around, it means they're not happy. They might charge you," she explained.

This newfound knowledge has left Winslet on edge during her frequent hikes. "I’ve decided they’re going to stampede me to the ground," she confessed.

She even recalled a tense encounter with her late mother when a group of cows seemed to “Bo-Peep” after them. "They were slowly catching up, and then they sped up—borderline gallopers, I’d say," she joked.

Despite her fear, Winslet admitted it might be irrational. "I need to get better at coping with that. They’re not really scary, are they?"

But cows aren’t the only peculiar topic in Winslet’s household. She revealed her husband, Edward Abel Smith, has an extreme aversion to the sound of biting into an apple. "It’s like nails on a chalkboard for him," Winslet said, adding that her family occasionally teases him by chomping on apples nearby.

"He’ll block his ears and leave the room," she laughed. "It’s like you’ve poured hot water over his skull."
