Justin Baldoni Accuses Marvel and Disney of Mockery Through 'Deadpool & Wolverine' Scene

Actor and filmmaker Justin Baldoni has issued a legal warning to Disney and Marvel Studios, alleging that a scene in Deadpool & Wolverine was designed to mock and ridicule him. The warning comes amidst ongoing tension between Baldoni and Ryan Reynolds, who starred in and contributed to the film as a writer and producer.

Baldoni's attorney, Bryan Freedman, sent a legal letter to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Disney CEO Bob Iger, urging them to preserve all documentation related to the character "Nicepool." Baldoni believes the portrayal, including specific dialogue, was a direct attempt to mock him.

In the July 2024 release, Reynolds’ character, "Nicepool," delivers lines that Baldoni claims are pointed references to recent controversies. The character questions the absence of an intimacy coordinator, praises Blake Lively’s character for her postpartum recovery, and makes remarks about feminism. Baldoni views these lines as targeted jabs, particularly in light of allegations from Lively, who has accused him of sexual harassment and body-shaming on the set of It Ends With Us. Baldoni has denied these accusations.

The legal notice demands Disney and Marvel preserve any records or communications that could reveal intent to ridicule or harass Baldoni through the film. It also raises the possibility of legal claims, including tortious interference with contract and civil extortion.

Reynolds, who is married to Lively, has not publicly commented on the allegations but is reportedly supporting his wife. Baldoni has previously accused Reynolds of pressuring him during a professional meeting, though sources close to Reynolds have denied these claims.

The situation remains unresolved, with potential legal battles looming. Disney and Marvel Studios have yet to issue a public response to the allegations.
