Jodie Foster Reflects on Career and Life After Golden Globes Win

On Sunday, January 5, 2025, Jodie Foster celebrated a milestone in her career, earning the Golden Globe for Best Female Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for her performance in True Detective: Night Country. Speaking in the press room following her win, the 62-year-old actress and director shared her thoughts on aging, career satisfaction, and family.

Foster expressed a sense of fulfillment in this stage of her life and career, referring to it as her "golden age." She also noted how this perspective aligns with fellow actress Demi Moore, who is the same age and also a Golden Globe winner this year.

“It is really, you pay attention as a golden age for people, right?” Foster said. “For women, I think something happens—there's an organism that gets released into the bloodstream. I'm not a doctor, so don't follow me on that one, but it just feels like there's a hormone or something that changes. Suddenly, you go, ‘Oh, I don’t really care about things anymore. I’m not going to compete for myself.’”

Foster revealed that turning 60 brought a newfound contentment and clarity to her life. “I’m excited about what’s left of my life and who I’ve become that I can bring to the table,” she added. “For me, this is the most contented moment in my career, and I never would’ve known that.”

During her acceptance speech, Foster also highlighted the importance of community, particularly referencing her fellow nominee Sofía Vergara. “The greatest thing about being this age and being in this time is having a community of all these people, especially you, Sofía,” she said.

Foster shared a personal update about her family, mentioning that her son Charlie, 26, is pursuing a career in acting. She and her ex-partner, Cydney Bernard, are also parents to another son, Christopher, 23.

When asked about advice for Charlie's acting career, Foster joked, “Well, it's the advice I will give him in time, which is you don’t actually have to wear shoes, and when you do, make sure you put the little foam things in before you put on the shoes.” More seriously, she encouraged him to "just be yourself" and trust the process.
