The clip opens with screenshots of negative comments about her looks before transitioning to highlights from her successful year. Accompanied by audio promoting self-confidence, Aguilera's post emphasized the importance of self-acceptance.
“This year, doing something a little different,” Aguilera captioned the video. “This is a reminder to everyone that you are your OWN STORYTELLER in your OWN LIFE. No one else can dictate who you are. No one deserves an explanation.” She further encouraged her followers to embrace patience, grace, and self-respect on their personal journeys.
Aguilera has been vocal about her struggles with body image. In August, she told Glamour about the body shaming she faced early in her career, noting that industry expectations about her weight were a constant challenge.
“When you’re a teenager, you have a very different body than when you’re in your 20s,” the "Genie In a Bottle" singer said. “I started to fill out, and then that was unacceptable... Industry people liked me better as a skinny teenager.”
Now 44, Aguilera says she no longer lets others’ opinions affect her. “I have a maturity now where I just don’t give a f— about your opinion. Other people’s opinions of me are not my business,” she told Glamour.
As a mother of two, Aguilera also aims to pass on this confidence to her children, Max, 16, and Summer, 10. In November, she told PEOPLE, “Defining beauty for me is about feeling comfortable in your own skin, and that’s a message I always try to encourage my kids to instill in themselves.”
Christina’s message is a powerful reminder that confidence and self-acceptance start from within, regardless of outside criticism.
