Aubrey Plaza Deletes Instagram Following Death of Husband Jeff Baena

Aubrey Plaza has reportedly deleted her Instagram account in the wake of her husband Jeff Baena's tragic death. As of Monday, January 13, visitors to the 40-year-old actress's Instagram page were met with the message: “Sorry, this page isn’t available. The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed.”

Baena, a writer and director known for his work on films like Life After Beth and the anthology series Cinema Toast, passed away by suicide at the age of 47 on January 3.

In a statement released to PEOPLE, Plaza and Baena’s family expressed their grief, saying, “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”

Plaza and Baena had been in a relationship since 2011, but their marriage was not publicly known until May 2021, when Plaza referred to him as her “darling husband” in an Instagram post.

Reflecting on their partnership during a 2019 interview with PEOPLE, Plaza shared insights into their dynamic. “I think that one of the great things about our careers is that we are forced to be independent, take little breaks, go off and do our things and come back,” she said. “It’s kind of fun. Nothing is ever the same. But I think that there’s a way that it can work, and there’s a balance in that.”

Baena made his directorial debut with Life After Beth, a zombie comedy that starred Plaza, and later collaborated with her on several projects, including Cinema Toast. Speaking about their creative partnership, Plaza said, “When you’re with someone that is in your field, they understand what you’re dealing with on a deeper level. So obviously, you are able to support each other and really understand the journey that we’re both on.”

Plaza has not publicly commented further on Baena’s passing.
