“I’m gonna disappoint you. Yeah, no,” Garfield said, adding, “But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on.”
The actor, who portrayed Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man films, expressed that while he’s not returning to the web-slinging role for Spider-Man 4, he would consider joining another major Hollywood project if it “felt in line with [his] soul” and was fun. Garfield even joked about the possibility of needing a bigger paycheck down the line if he ends up with a larger family.
Rumors also circulated that Garfield would reunite with legendary director Martin Scorsese to play Jesus in an upcoming film. However, Garfield shut those down as well, noting, “It’s not true to my knowledge.” He remains eager to work with Scorsese again but acknowledged the challenge of waiting for the director to call, especially since The Irishman featured frequent collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio.
Reflecting on his earlier Spider-Man films, Garfield shared how he felt “left dangling” after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 underperformed at the box office, marking the end of his Spider-Man journey at the time. His return for No Way Home was a long-awaited and joyful experience, especially with his co-stars Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland.
“I thought Tobey is not going to want to do that. He’ll act every 10 years, much to my chagrin, and I’ve shared that to him,” Garfield recalled. “When I heard that he was kind of leaning in, I thought it was either going to be the greatest thing in the world or the worst thing in the world. I am so grateful because it was the most joyful thing ever.”
As for Spider-Man 4, Holland has praised the script, describing it as “excellent” and full of energy. “Zendaya and I sat down and read it together, and at times we were bouncing around the living room. This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect,” Holland shared in a recent interview.
While Garfield may not be swinging back into action in the next Spider-Man film, fans are still holding out hope for future appearances from the beloved actor in the ever-expanding Marvel universe.
