Funeral NDA Sparks Controversy
TMZ obtained a copy of the NDA, which required attendees at tWitch's funeral to agree not to share or profit from any content, such as interviews, articles, or books, related to the late dancer and television personality. Any proceeds from such endeavors, according to the document, would be directed to Holker.
Holker’s eldest daughter, Weslie Fowler, has defended the NDA, stating its primary purpose was to prevent photographs of tWitch's body from being leaked. Fowler also noted that NDAs were not unusual for their family and were used during other private events when tWitch was alive.
In her book, Holker explained her reasoning behind the decision, stating that she wanted to protect her children from encountering distressing images of their father. "At the advice of my lawyers, I insisted that everybody who viewed the open casket sign a nondisclosure agreement to protect Stephen's privacy," Holker wrote.
Family Criticism Over Media Campaign
tWitch’s family has criticized Holker for promoting her memoir, accusing her of exploiting his name for financial gain. They have also pushed back against claims she allegedly made during interviews, including assertions about tWitch's struggles with substance abuse.
Holker has publicly stated that all proceeds from her book will go to the Move with Kindness Foundation, which she established in tWitch's honor. Sources close to Holker told TMZ that no one has breached the funeral NDA, and she has not profited from its implementation.
Tensions Over Funeral Arrangements
Holker revealed in the book that there were disagreements regarding funeral arrangements. According to her, tWitch’s family wanted to include individuals she did not know in the open-casket portion of the service. Holker ultimately limited the viewing to 13 people and implemented strict privacy measures, including the NDA, to ensure no photos or videos of tWitch were leaked.
While the NDA's purpose was reportedly to safeguard the family’s privacy, the document has fueled tensions between Holker and tWitch's family, highlighting the ongoing strain in their relationship.
