Anya Taylor-Joy Rumored to Join Spider-Man 4 as Black Cat or Gwen Stacy

Anya Taylor-Joy has been making headlines with rumors that she might join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The buzz suggests she could play a major role in Spider-Man 4, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on July 26, 2026.

Fans are excited about the possibility of Taylor-Joy playing Black Cat, also known as Felicia Hardy, or even Gwen Stacy. Black Cat is a popular character from Spider-Man comics, first appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man #194 in 1979. She has been portrayed as both an ally and an enemy of Spider-Man, sometimes even as a love interest.

Taylor-Joy is no stranger to superhero films. She starred in The New Mutants (2020), a spin-off of the X-Men series. The movie featured a cast that included Maisie Williams and Charlie Heaton.

At a recent press event, producer Amy Pascal addressed the rumors, saying, “She would be fantastic. She’s amazing, [but] we’re not quite at that stage yet. There are a lot of fantastic female characters, but I can’t talk about all this.”

Another theory is that the movie might draw inspiration from Spider-Man: The Animated Series. In this case, Taylor-Joy could portray Felicia Hardy, Peter Parker's college classmate, who becomes Black Cat. This storyline would clarify the differences between Hardy and Gwen Stacy's characters.

Tom Holland and Zendaya are also excited about the project. During a recent podcast, Holland said, “Zendaya and I sat down and read [the script] together. At times we were bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.’”

The movie will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. While Marvel Studios hasn’t confirmed Taylor-Joy’s involvement, fans are eagerly waiting for more updates as the excitement for Spider-Man 4 continues to grow.
