During his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Assassin’s Creed actor shared a gripping story about being caught in a storm while on a boat near Ibiza. Fassbender recounted that his relationship with the iconic Swedish pop group changed forever during this life-threatening ordeal.
“I never really liked ABBA,” Fassbender admitted. “But we were in Ibiza—actually in Formentera—and getting a boat from Formentera to Ibiza.”
The actor explained that after having lunch, he and his friends began their return journey. However, rough weather quickly escalated into a dangerous storm. The group had already boarded a smaller boat to reach their main vessel, leaving them with no choice but to face the worsening conditions.
As the storm intensified, Fassbender described how waves crashed against the boat, sending plates flying and forcing everyone to secure their belongings. Amid the chaos, something unexpected caught his attention—ABBA’s music playing in the background.
“I finally understood ABBA,” Fassbender shared with a smile. He joked that, in moments of crisis, "a person is always safe with ABBA."
Reflecting on the experience, Fassbender added with humor that if that had been his final moment, the band’s music would have been the “perfect soundtrack to die to.”
The actor is currently starring in The Agency, a Paramount+/Showtime series where he plays a CIA agent grappling with his past while managing the London Station.
While his latest role showcases his dramatic talents, Fassbender’s candid storytelling and newfound appreciation for ABBA have left fans both entertained and inspired by his ability to find light in a dark moment.
