Lily Allen Opens Up About Sobriety, Marriage to David Harbour, and Overcoming Rock Bottom

Lily Allen recently opened up about the transformative nature of her relationship with husband David Harbour, describing it as unlike anything she’s experienced before. In an interview with The Times of London, the British singer revealed a significant milestone in her personal life, sharing that she had never had sober sex until meeting the Stranger Things star. “I don’t think I’d ever had sex with anybody not drunk before I got together with him. So, that was different for sure,” she admitted.

Allen described their bond as “unavoidable, conscious, and real,” crediting Harbour’s maturity and past experiences as pivotal in shaping their relationship. “It’s been helpful to do it with someone that’s long-in-the-tooth in that game,” she said.

The couple, who tied the knot in a Las Vegas ceremony officiated by an Elvis impersonator in 2020, both share a commitment to sobriety. Allen has been sober for five years, while Harbour has been abstinent since the age of 25. She now serves as an ambassador for the Forward Trust, a charity supported by Kate Middleton.

In a lighter moment during her appearance on the Miss Me podcast, Allen humorously “kink-shamed” Harbour, revealing how she often declines some of his more adventurous requests. “He often asks for things, and I’m like, ‘No, babe, it’s not happening,’” she joked.

Reflecting on her past struggles, Allen opened up about hitting “rock bottom” following her divorce from Sam Cooper in 2016. The fallout left her in a self-destructive spiral, including an episode where she confronted Cooper at his home in a highly emotional state.

The turning point came after a friend’s comment made her realize how much alcohol controlled her life. “I just felt like I was no longer in control of my own destiny,” she said, recalling how the realization pushed her to attend a recovery meeting the next morning.

Now, Allen embraces her sobriety and her strong partnership with Harbour, describing their journey together as deeply grounding and life-changing.
