Knightley, who shares two daughters—9-year-old Edie and 5-year-old Delilah—with her musician husband James Righton, shared her thoughts while promoting her new Netflix series, Black Doves. She recalled the moment when she and her husband considered having another child, only to be put off by the thought of enduring more episodes of the popular animated series Peppa Pig.
Despite the exhaustion of repeated Peppa Pig episodes, Knightley spoke fondly of her daughters, noting that they are “very cool” and have developed a love for Japanese movies by Studio Ghibli. She also revealed that Edie, her eldest, has moved on from Peppa Pig and is now into artists like Lizzo and Chappell Roan.
However, the 9-year-old has begun to find her mom a bit embarrassing, as Knightley shared a funny anecdote from Edie's birthday disco party. “Mom, mom, you are so embarrassing, just go and stand in the corner,” Knightley recalled her daughter saying, which led to a humorous moment on the show.
Knightley has kept her children mostly out of the public eye, but she often mentions them with warmth in interviews. In 2022, she revealed that Encanto was a big favorite in their household, with Delilah already singing along to the hit song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.”
In addition to her motherhood journey, Knightley discussed how becoming a mom inspired her to take on more action-packed roles, like in Black Doves. She explained that, after focusing on her family life, she wanted to “kick ass” and take on a role that was “punk” and full of excitement. She even did her own stunts in the series, as noted by Fallon during the interview.
