The actor admitted that whenever a good script or a chance to work with a talented team comes along, he can't resist. As for Sonic 3, Carrey joked he signed on because he got to play a "genius" and, of course, "bought a lot of stuff and need the money." However, he quickly brushed off the money comment, saying his true motivation was his enthusiasm for the role.
Carrey also expressed interest in revisiting some of his iconic roles, like the ones from The Mask (1994) or How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), should sequels come his way. While his retirement talk surprised many during an interview with Access Hollywood in 2022, Carrey explained that if the right opportunity arises—like a script "written in gold ink"—he’d consider returning to work. For now, he’s enjoying a quieter life, including pursuing his passion for painting.
At the time, Carrey remarked, "I feel like— and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists— I have enough. I've done enough. I am enough." Sonic the Hedgehog 3 premiered in London on December 10 and will hit theaters worldwide on December 20.
