Jennifer Love Hewitt Reflects on Teen Stardom, Motherhood, and New Career Goals

Jennifer Love Hewitt is opening up about her journey from teen idol to a grounded, grateful 45-year-old. Reflecting on her early career, the actress recalled her rise to fame in the 1990s with roles in Party of Five and I Know What You Did Last Summer. As her popularity soared, she found herself labeled a sex symbol, a title she didn’t fully understand at the time.

“I was pretty innocent and didn’t know much about my sexuality,” she told PEOPLE. “But I was on the cover of Maxim, and the photo shoots kept getting more revealing. Looking back now, it was intense.” Hewitt also drew parallels between her experiences and those of Britney Spears, noting how inappropriate questions about her appearance were common in interviews during her youth.

If she could advise her younger self, Hewitt said she’d tell her, “You don’t have to be sexy,” and to trust that her career would last. Now a mother of three, Hewitt prioritizes her family with husband Brian Hallisay, balancing her role as a mom with her acting career.

This year has been busy for the actress, who released her book Inheriting Magic and starred in Lifetime’s holiday movie The Holiday Junkie, which premieres Dec. 14. She’s also considering a return to her horror roots with the upcoming reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Looking ahead, Hewitt is focused on growing her Holiday Junkie brand while appreciating the balance she’s achieved between motherhood and her career. “When I sat down with my vision board for 2024, this is exactly what I wanted,” she shared. “I’m feeling really excited and super grateful.”
