During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Lopez shared that Rodriguez offered valuable insights for her role. "I said I am doing this movie and I’m playing a stripper, and I will have to visit some strip clubs," Lopez recalled. "He’s like, ‘Really? I’ll go with you, I know everything.’"
Lopez’s commitment to the role was evident as she trained intensely for the film's demanding dance scenes. Director Lorene Scafaria explained that pole dancing requires muscles that most people don’t know they have. She compared the training to preparing for a sports movie. Lopez even insisted on performing her own stunts, wanting her face to be shown in close-up shots, so audiences knew it was her, not a stunt double.
Rodriguez humorously added that the couple had a pole set up in their bedroom for six months, helping Lopez hone her skills.
Lopez spoke about the challenge of dancing nearly naked in front of 300 extras during the shoot. "It’s liberating and empowering, but you’re really out there, physically, emotionally, and psychologically," she said.
Though Lopez did not receive an Oscar nomination for her performance, she was proud of her work on Hustlers. "I did it for no money and I produced it," she shared. "If it wins, I win."
