James Norton Calls on Men to Be Proactive in the Post-MeToo Era

James Norton, known for his role in Happy Valley and widely rumored to be a contender for the next James Bond, has spoken out about the importance of men stepping up in a post-MeToo world. In an interview with Radio Times, Norton emphasized the need for men to actively confront issues of misconduct rather than taking a backseat.

Norton reflected on the evolving role of the “modern man,” saying society is in the midst of addressing the "patriarchal crimes of the past." He highlighted a common misconception among men, explaining, “A lot of men think they should step back and become passive, but that’s not the answer.”

These insights tie into Norton’s portrayal of Pete in the new ITV drama Playing Nice. The series follows two couples dealing with the shocking discovery that their toddlers were switched at birth. Norton’s character faces his own challenges, including standing up to the bullying and manipulative Miles, played by James McArdle. “You have to be proactive and, sometimes, confrontational,” Norton said, describing his character’s journey.

While Norton has remained tight-lipped about the ongoing speculation linking him to the James Bond franchise, he previously dismissed it as “fun and bemusing media coverage.” Fans, however, continue to keep a close eye on the actor as one of the top names in the running.

Playing Nice is set to air soon, offering audiences a gripping exploration of identity, family, and moral courage.
