Gigi Hadid Tackles Rat Problem with NYC Apartment Renovation

Gigi Hadid is tackling a common New York City issue—rats. The 29-year-old supermodel shared in an Architectural Digest interview that she’s updating her outdoor space to address the problem. She explained that certain elements of her original design contributed to the issue, prompting renovations.

New York City has been intensifying efforts to combat its rat population, including appointing a “rat czar” and approving a bill to use rodent birth control. Hadid is far from alone in facing this challenge.

While it’s unclear if the rats entered her living space, Hadid has a second home in Pennsylvania where she could retreat. She described her interior design style as “eclectic, industrial farmhouse,” noting that it has evolved over time. Early on, her spaces were simple and trend-focused, but she’s since embraced a more personal, creative approach.

Yellow is a recurring theme in her designs, with sunflower yellow being her “happy color.” She incorporated it throughout her home, including a striking yellow lacquered kitchen island in one of her favorite rooms.

Hadid purchased her Noho townhouse in December 2018 for $5.8 million, located in the same building as her $3.97 million apartment acquired three years earlier. The two units were renovated and combined, including a 770-square-foot private terrace now undergoing updates to ensure it remains rat-free.
