Conan O'Brien's Parents, Dr. Thomas and Ruth O'Brien, Pass Away Days Apart

Conan O'Brien's parents, Dr. Thomas O’Brien and Ruth Reardon O’Brien, passed away earlier this week, just three days apart. Dr. O'Brien, 95, had been battling declining health before his death on Monday. He was a renowned expert in antimicrobial drug resistance research and served as the director of the Infectious Diseases Division at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He also taught at Harvard until his retirement in 2019. Conan O'Brien shared in an interview that his father's sense of humor, particularly during a trip to see a Peter Sellers film, played a major role in fostering his own love for comedy.

Ruth Reardon O’Brien, 92, passed away on December 12. She began her career as a law clerk for the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court before transitioning to real estate law, eventually becoming the second female partner at her law firm in 1978.

The couple married in 1958 after Ruth's brothers introduced them, and they had six children together, including Conan. They remained married for 66 years. While Conan has not publicly commented on his mother's passing, our team has reached out for a statement.
