Chris Evans Returns to MCU for Avengers: Doomsday with Robert Downey Jr.

Chris Evans is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in Avengers: Doomsday, joining Robert Downey Jr., who will portray Doctor Doom. While the details of Evans’ role remain under wraps, his return has sparked excitement among fans. The film, directed by the Russo Brothers, is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026.

Evans, who retired his iconic Captain America role in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, recently made a surprise MCU appearance in Deadpool and Wolverine as Johnny Storm from Fox’s Fantastic Four series. Meanwhile, Downey Jr.’s return as a Tony Stark variant further fuels speculation about the storylines in Avengers: Doomsday.

Anthony Mackie now carries the Captain America mantle in the MCU and will appear in Captain America: Brave New World on February 14, 2025. Evans initially debuted as Steve Rogers in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, appearing in several sequels and Avengers films.

Outside the MCU, Evans has showcased his versatility in projects like Knives Out (2019), Apple TV+’s Defending Jacob (2020), Pixar’s Lightyear (2022), and Netflix’s The Gray Man (2022). His recent work includes Pain Hustlers (2023) and Red One, currently streaming on Amazon MGM. Marvel has declined to comment on Evans’ involvement in the upcoming film, leaving fans eagerly awaiting more updates.
