Cheryl Hines Defends RFK Jr.’s McDonald’s Moment with Donald Trump

Cheryl Hines, actress and wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has weighed in on a much-talked-about photo of her health-conscious husband enjoying McDonald’s alongside President-elect Donald Trump.

The snapshot, taken mid-flight after the election, shows RFK Jr. with a quarter-pounder, large fries, and a Coke while seated next to Trump, Elon Musk, Don Jr., and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson. For many, it was a surprising sight, given Kennedy’s outspoken stance against processed foods and his advocacy for healthier eating habits.

When asked about the image during a chat in Beverly Hills on Wednesday, Cheryl shrugged off concerns, emphasizing her husband’s strong resolve. “No, no. Bobby is a very strong-willed, strong-minded person,” she said, dismissing the idea that Trump’s well-documented love for fast food could influence Kennedy.

The timing of the photo couldn’t have been more ironic. RFK Jr., now Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services, has been vocal about addressing obesity and what he describes as the dangers of the typical American diet, even coining the slogan "Make America Healthy Again."

Cheryl offered a lighthearted defense of the meal, suggesting Kennedy was simply expanding his diet while fostering connections with Trump. "Breaking bread" with the President-elect, she hinted, might have been more about building rapport than betraying his principles.

While Cheryl plans to continue her acting career, she assured reporters she fully supports her husband’s journey to Washington, D.C. She did, however, suggest he keep his usual snacks—think almonds and kale—close by for future meetings.

It seems the Kennedy household has a sense of humor about the situation, but RFK Jr. may want to tread carefully. After all, balancing personal values with political optics is no small task.
