Chad Michael Murray Talks Risky Role in The Merry Gentlemen and Balancing Wholesome Family Values

Chad Michael Murray revealed in a recent interview that his latest project, The Merry Gentlemen, has a version with heightened spiciness, which has captivated the audience even more.

Murray's latest film features scenes of him dancing shirtless. In an interview with Interview magazine, he shared his desire to keep his work "wholesome" as a father of three.

However, Murray admitted to the publication that he took a risk with the film, saying, "There's a spicy version with more thrusting." Discussing the final scene that made it into the movie, he added, "We found a balance where it's still fun and free, but not over the top, if you know what I mean."

Playing Luke, one of the shirtless dancers in the film, Murray shared that the dance brought him a sense of excitement and energy he hadn’t experienced before. He described feeling a rush of dopamine and a sense of liberation, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

In an earlier interview with People magazine, the One Tree Hill star shared how he pushed himself for the role. He explained that when something scares him, he feels compelled to try it—to see if he fails or ends up enjoying the experience.

Murray revealed that his wife, Sarah Roemer, was initially nervous about the film after seeing a behind-the-scenes clip. She asked him what kind of movie he was making, noting that the way it was filmed and lit could completely change its tone.

Murray explained, "Blending a Christmas movie with strippers is a tricky balance. It's not the first thing that comes to mind for Christmas, so we focused on getting the tone just right."

The film stars Britt Robertson, Marla Sokoloff, Beth Broderick, Colt Prattes, Maxwell Caulfield, Michael Gross, Marc Anthony Samuel, Hector David Jr., and more. It premiered on Netflix on November 20, 2024.
