When asked what her superpower would be, McEntire didn’t hesitate: “My superpower would be able to talk to animals. Wouldn’t that be fun?” Harlum agreed, adding, “We need to get you in the Marvel universe.”
Though McEntire hasn’t secured a Marvel role just yet, her own “Reba Cinematic Universe” is expanding with Happy’s Place, a sitcom on NBC that reunites her with Reba costar Melissa Peterman. In the show, McEntire plays Bobbie, who inherits her father’s bar along with a surprise half-sister, portrayed by Peterman as the quirky bartender Gabby.
Series creator Kevin Abbott, who previously worked on Reba, shared that Happy’s Place originally stemmed from efforts to reboot Reba. “We worked on a reboot, and we spent about a year on it,” Abbott told TVLine, revealing that Disney, which owns Reba's rights, initially supported the idea. However, around Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox, the project lost momentum. But rather than drop the idea entirely, McEntire suggested an entirely new sitcom concept.
The Reba universe will expand even further, as Steve Howey, who played McEntire’s on-screen son-in-law Van Montgomery, is set to guest-star in Happy’s Place. He’ll play Danny, a wealthy businessman Gabby meets in a dog park, ensuring fans of the original show will enjoy another fun reunion.
