Authorities claim Roger was aware of Liam’s relapse. The night before his death, Liam reportedly ordered multiple bottles of whiskey and sent texts referencing drugs and hiring sex workers. By the following morning, he was visibly intoxicated. Hotel staff reported chaotic behavior, including property damage and demands for more cocaine. Two women who visited his room claimed Liam was enraged when asked for payment, further escalating his instability.
Prosecutors allege Roger failed to act despite witnessing Liam’s condition. Although he checked on Liam several times that day, he left the hotel at 4:04 PM. Just over 20 minutes later, Liam stopped responding to messages, and hotel staff reported hearing disturbances from his room.
Complicating matters, three hotel employees reportedly restrained Liam earlier that day, taking him to his room after he collapsed in the lobby. They later called emergency services, fearing he might harm himself by attempting to escape via the balcony. Authorities believe Liam tried scaling down to a lower floor before falling to his death.
Despite the allegations, a judge ruled that national prosecutors lack jurisdiction to charge Roger with abandonment, leaving the matter to local authorities. No charges have been filed to date. Roger maintains that Liam showed no signs of being under the influence when he last saw him.
The incident raises questions about responsibility and intervention in the face of a well-documented struggle with addiction.
