Keke Palmer Reflects on Ice Cube's Lifelong Advice About Hollywood

Keke Palmer recently shared a valuable piece of advice she received from her former co-star Ice Cube while working on the 2008 sports comedy The Longshots. During an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, Palmer recalled a moment when the rapper, known for his reserved demeanor, offered her words of wisdom about navigating Hollywood.

At just 14 years old, Palmer was summoned to a room where Ice Cube, flanked by bodyguards, gave her advice on protecting herself in the entertainment industry. “He told me, ‘You’re a beautiful young lady, and I see how kind you are to everyone on set. But you need to know that the way men see you isn’t always the way you see yourself,’” she recounted. He urged her to "protect yourself, be careful, and know who you are so people can’t take advantage of you."

Although she admitted she didn’t fully grasp the significance of his words at the time, Palmer said they stuck with her and became increasingly meaningful as she grew older. “He’s a father and someone who’s seen a lot in this industry, especially with young entertainers. I’ll always be grateful to him for that advice,” she shared.

Now 31, Palmer is navigating new chapters in her personal life. Following her split from ex-partner Darius Jackson, with whom she shares a son, Leo, born in February 2023, she expressed openness to dating again. “I feel fabulous, hot, and confident,” she told PEOPLE. “I love being pursued, but at this point, I don’t know if I care as much.”

Palmer continues to embrace her journey with grace and gratitude, cherishing the lessons and wisdom that have guided her along the way.
