Josh Brolin Vows to Quit Acting if Denis Villeneuve Doesn’t Get Oscar Nod for Dune: Part Two

Josh Brolin has made a bold promise regarding Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two. The actor, who plays Gurney Halleck in the sci-fi saga, stated that he would retire from acting if Villeneuve does not receive an Oscar nomination for Best Director this year. Speaking to Variety, Brolin described Villeneuve's direction of the sequel as "masterful," calling the experience of watching it “brain-breaking.” He expressed his strong belief that if the Academy Awards hold any weight, they will recognize Villeneuve’s work.

The first Dune film, released in 2021, was a major success, earning 10 Oscar nominations and winning six, including Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, and Best Visual Effects. However, Villeneuve was notably absent from the Best Director category, a snub that many fans and critics felt was undeserved. Now, with Dune: Part Two, Brolin believes the sequel surpasses the first film and should finally earn Villeneuve the recognition he deserves.

The sequel, which continues the journey of Paul Atreides (played by Timothée Chalamet), is expected to be a major contender in the upcoming Oscars. Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of the film in 2024, hoping for a long-overdue nomination for Villeneuve.

In addition to Part Two, Villeneuve is already planning Dune 3, which will take place 12 years after the events of the second film. The director teased that this installment will introduce fresh circumstances while remaining rooted in the same world.

The Dune universe is also expanding beyond the films. A prequel series, Dune: Prophecy, is now streaming on Max, diving into the origins of the Bene Gesserit, a powerful group within the Dune world.

As the release of Dune: Part Two approaches, Brolin’s passionate statement has only fueled excitement and anticipation for the upcoming film and its potential Oscar success.
