David was born on March 30, 1942, in Sevier County, Tennessee, to Robert and Avie Lee Parton. He spent his career as a bridge builder, contributing to infrastructure projects in the Kingsport, Johnson City, and Knoxville areas. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kay, daughters Donna Parton and Dena Lane, five grandsons, and three great-grandchildren.
David’s private life contrasted with the fame of his siblings, including Dolly, who has sold over 100 million records worldwide. Despite this, the family’s close bond remained evident. The Partons have faced other losses in the past, including their youngest sibling Larry in 1955, Floyd in 2018, and Randy in 2021. Dolly previously paid tribute to Randy, calling him a talented performer and cherished family member.
The Partons expressed their gratitude to those who cared for David in his final days, including Dr. David McNabney and Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice. His funeral will take place on November 19 at Leadvale Baptist Church.
Dolly, known for her deep love of family, has often spoken about how her upbringing shaped her. While her father’s work ethic inspired her drive, her mother’s creativity influenced her artistry. The country music icon continues to honor her roots through her work, including her latest album, Smoky Mountain DNA: Family, Faith and Fables, which blends archival recordings with new tracks.
As the family grieves, fans have offered their condolences, showing an outpouring of support during this difficult time.
