Disney Swaps 2026 Star Wars Film for Ice Age 6

Disney Swaps 2026 Star Wars Film for Ice Age 6

Disney has reshuffled its release schedule, removing an untitled Star Wars film set for December 18, 2026. In its place, the much-anticipated Ice Age 6 will take center stage.

Though Disney never confirmed details about the shelved Star Wars project, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy was previously announced as its director. The film was expected to follow Daisy Ridley's Rey as she built a new Jedi Order after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. However, the project faced setbacks earlier this year with the departure of screenwriter Steven Knight, who had replaced Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson.

This marks yet another in a series of Star Wars projects that failed to materialize. Similar fates befell plans involving Patty Jenkins, Kevin Feige, Rian Johnson, and Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Despite the cancellation, fans won’t have to wait long for their next adventure in the galaxy far, far away. Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian and Grogu is slated for May 2026, with another untitled Star Wars movie scheduled for December 17, 2027. Additionally, Lucasfilm recently announced a new trilogy penned and produced by Simon Kinberg, with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy leading the charge.

On the animation front, Disney and 20th Century Animation confirmed last week that Ice Age 6 is in production. Franchise favorites Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary, and Simon Pegg will return to voice their iconic characters.
