This decline follows a previous slump, as Swift had 95.9 million unique listeners in the month leading up to August 27. Chartmetric’s data, which tracks global users, does not specify how many of these lost listeners were in the U.S. Spotify has reported 246 million paying customers and 626 million monthly users worldwide.
Swift's YouTube views also decreased by nearly 10% after her endorsement, dropping from 102.4 million monthly viewers to 92.5 million. This drop comes amid recent fluctuations on the platform, partly due to popular artists' music videos being blocked.
In her Instagram post, Swift stated, “I’m voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.” The post, which received over 11 million likes and included a link to a voter registration site, drove more than 338,000 views to the registration page.
Trump responded to Swift’s endorsement by expressing his disdain, stating, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” on Truth Social.
Before her endorsement, media outlets had speculated about her political stance, questioning whether she would back Harris. In her 2020 documentary “Miss Americana,” Swift expressed regret for not opposing Trump in 2016, stating her desire to be “on the right side of history.” In 2024, she has made it clear she will use her platform to support candidates she believes in, even if it affects her streaming numbers.
