The conflict began in 2020 when FKA filed a lawsuit against Shia, alleging sexual battery and abuse during their relationship from 2018 to 2019. She is seeking $10 million in damages, claiming the alleged abuse caused her severe emotional distress that has affected her ability to work. Shia has denied all allegations and requested that the case be dismissed.
According to Shia’s attorney, FKA has been too busy with various projects to attend her deposition. They argue that while she claims to be suffering from emotional distress, she has been working extensively, making it difficult to schedule the deposition. Shia’s legal team noted that FKA initially agreed to dates for her deposition but later changed them, insisting she would only attend after Shia's deposition.
FKA has described Shia as controlling and emotionally manipulative, claiming he cut her off from family and friends and subjected her to physical violence. She alleges that he knowingly exposed her to an STD and did not deny it when confronted.
In response, Shia's lawyer claims that FKA has not provided adequate evidence to support her demand for $10 million, pointing out that her career seems to be thriving. They highlighted her recent music releases, a film role, and modeling work, suggesting that her claims of lost opportunities are unfounded.
As the trial date approaches, both parties are still at odds over the scheduling of depositions, with Shia accusing FKA of using tactics to delay the process. A judge has yet to rule on the matters at hand.
