Sarah Michelle Gellar Confirms No Role in I Know What You Did Last Summer Reboot, Takes on Unofficial Behind-the-Scenes Position
In an interview with People magazine, Gellar shared her thoughts on the upcoming reboot, which is set to be directed by her close friend, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. She clarified that her character, Helen, who died in the original film, won’t be coming back. Gellar humorously noted, "I am dead."
Despite not appearing on screen, she mentioned her involvement as a "continuity expert," helping Robinson keep the story consistent with the original. Gellar stated, "I do have kind of an unofficial job title," as she often advises on character actions in the sequel.
While Gellar won’t be on screen, her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., will reprise his role as Ray Bronson. She expressed excitement about the new cast and shared, "Jen's put together such an amazing cast, and I'm so happy and excited for all of them," adding that she would support them from behind the camera.
When asked about attending the film’s premiere, Gellar indicated that she likely would, considering her husband’s involvement and her close friendship with the director. “I think there's a pretty good chance I will go to that premiere,” she said.
In the meantime, fans can still enjoy the original I Know What You Did Last Summer, directed by Jim Gillespie, which is available for streaming on Prime Video. The film features a star-studded cast, including Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Phillippe, and Bridgette Wilson, and follows four friends haunted by a killer after a tragic accident.
