Abi initially reported the abuse to her mother, Andrea, in 2009, and they filed a complaint as "Jane Doe." However, they discovered that the statute of limitations had expired. In her emotional testimony, Abi expresses her struggle to accept the reality of the situation, saying, “For a long time, I didn’t even want to believe that it happened.” She also reveals that she felt too scared to speak up, even to her mother.
Andrea Kelly appears in the documentary, criticizing R. Kelly for not putting effort into their marriage and supporting Abi's claims of abuse. Abi reflects on how a single moment changed her life forever, emphasizing her commitment to telling her son the truth about his grandfather but stating she will never take him to visit R. Kelly in prison, where he is serving a 20-year sentence.
In response to these allegations, R. Kelly's attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, stated that he "vehemently denies" the claims. She noted that similar allegations made by Andrea were investigated by the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services and found to be unfounded. Bonjean also criticized the documentary filmmakers for not reaching out to Kelly or his team to allow him to respond to the allegations.
