The campaign features a heartfelt video in which Megan shares her personal mental health journey and emphasizes the importance of open conversations about mental health. In an interview with Billboard’s Gail Mitchell, she stated, “It took me a long time to be comfortable talking about my mental health. Asking for help doesn’t make me weak. It actually built my strength.” She encourages her fans, known as the Hotties, to seek help and reassures them that they are “never a bother.”
The video is available on Megan’s Instagram and TikTok accounts, as well as on the Never a Bother website and its social media channels. The initiative, developed with the guidance of CDPH’s Office of Suicide Prevention, targets the urgent issue of youth suicide. According to CDPH data, suicide was the second leading cause of death among California youth aged 10-25 from 2018 to 2022, with particular emphasis on youth populations disproportionately affected by suicide.
The Never a Bother website reinforces the message that young people should not hesitate to seek help, whether they are experiencing a low point or a crisis. It features personal stories from young individuals who have faced overwhelming challenges, alongside accounts from friends who have supported them. The site also offers downloadable resources for youth and young adults.
Megan Thee Stallion is recognized not only for her music but also for her strong advocacy for mental health. Last year, she participated in a public service announcement for the Seize the Awkward campaign and founded the Pete and Thomas Foundation, which supports women, children, senior citizens, and underserved communities.
The Never a Bother campaign is part of the California Health and Human Services Agency’s Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI). This initiative aims to raise awareness of mental health resources, build essential intervention skills, and encourage help-seeking behavior among young people.
