In a chat with Total Film, Goldblum expressed his thoughts on the franchise's next chapter, saying, “I think Ian Malcolm may have ridden off into the sunset. Maybe.” While fans are buzzing with excitement for the upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth, set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025, Goldblum seems ready to pass the torch. He’s particularly looking forward to seeing Scarlett Johansson and his new friend Jonathan Bailey from Wicked take the reins in this fresh direction for the franchise.
Reflecting on his previous returns in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World Dominion, Goldblum shared how much he enjoyed reuniting with co-stars Laura Dern and Sam Neill, describing the experience as “very enjoyable.” He acknowledged the challenge of making a good movie, emphasizing that it’s no small feat, especially when it comes to living up to audience expectations and critical reviews.
Goldblum first brought Dr. Ian Malcolm to life in the 1993 classic Jurassic Park, alongside Neill and Dern. He later starred in the 1997 sequel, The Lost World. After a two-decade hiatus, he made a comeback in Fallen Kingdom, where he provided his unique perspective on the dangers of reviving and controlling dinosaurs for entertainment.
In Jurassic World Dominion, fans delighted in seeing him back with Neill’s Alan Grant and Dern’s Ellie Sattler, but as the franchise gears up for new stories, it seems that Goldblum’s time may have come to an end.
Outside of the Jurassic films, Goldblum also reprised his role in Independence Day: Resurgence, proving that he remains a staple in blockbuster cinema. As we look forward to Jurassic World Rebirth, it’s clear that while Goldblum may step back, the legacy of Dr. Ian Malcolm will always be cherished by fans.
