The couple first met in 1992 on the set of the Spanish film Jamón Jamón. At the time, Cruz was 17, and Bardem was 22. "It was her first movie, and one of my first films," Bardem recalled. Their connection was instant, sparked by a glance exchanged during a wardrobe test. Although they were at different points in their lives and focused on their careers, a strong bond formed between them.
Years passed without much contact, but that initial connection stayed with them. In 2008, they reunited on screen in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, where their chemistry reignited. Shortly after, they made their relationship public at the 2010 Goya Awards and got married later that year.
Bardem described how their relationship was grounded in mutual understanding, having known each other before their rise to fame. “We saw each other before all the noise, before the success,” he explained. This deep understanding became the foundation of their relationship.
Now, the couple shares two children, Leo, 13, and Luna, 11, and both have enjoyed successful careers, including winning Oscars. Bardem starred in Dune: Part 2 this year, while Cruz appeared in the 2023 film Ferrari.
