Ella Purnell Talks 'Scream Queen' Label, Acting Journey, and Upcoming Project

Ella Purnell discusses being labeled a "Scream Queen" in Hollywood after her breakout role as Lucy in the drama series Fallout.

In an interview with The Guardian, Ella Purnell expressed confusion about being called a "Scream Queen," admitting she's afraid to take on horror roles. She also revealed that she accidentally entered acting, having never planned to pursue it.

In a recent interview, Yellowjackets star Ella Purnell admitted she’s not a fan of sci-fi or horror, stating, "I can't do horror films. I don't enjoy watching too much gore or supernatural content. I'm also not a gamer, so I'm not sure how I ended up in this genre!"

Purnell spoke about her Hollywood journey and battling imposter syndrome, saying, "I never planned to be an actor. I feel guilty and have imposter syndrome because many have wanted to act since childhood, but that wasn’t my experience."

Contrary to her initial feelings, the actress began her acting career at 20 and has landed iconic roles, including the younger versions of Keira Knightley in Never Let Me Go and Angelina Jolie in Maleficent. She also appeared in The Legend of Tarzan alongside Margot Robbie.

Regarding her alternative career, the actress revealed that she initially planned to attend university to become a writer, specifically aiming to write children's books.

Despite her fame, Purnell shared that her family and parents keep her grounded and prevent her from becoming arrogant.

Purnell's upcoming project, Sweetpea, is set to premiere on October 10 on Starz.
