Demi Lovato Reflects on Nearly Quitting Music and Rediscovering Her Passion

Demi Lovato recently revealed that she nearly considered retiring from her music career while working on her documentary Child Star. This project, which marks Lovato’s directorial debut, dives into the experiences of famous former child stars, exploring the impact of growing up in the spotlight.

During her appearance on Penn Badgley’s Podcrushed podcast, Lovato explained her motivation for making the documentary. She said she wanted to explore why child stars like her turned out the way they did, how it shaped her, and if it still drives her to pursue a music career. Reflecting on this, Lovato admitted she was questioning whether music still fulfilled her and was even contemplating retirement.

However, as she worked on the project, Lovato described the process as therapeutic. She found clarity through conversations with other former child stars and realized she didn’t need to chase success. Instead, she wanted to focus on what made her happy, and ultimately, she rediscovered her love for music.

Lovato’s new song, You’ll Be OK, Kid, became a pivotal moment in this journey. She shared that creating the track helped her regain confidence in her music, which had been challenging due to her self-critical nature. The experience helped her realize she still loves making music, and she now wants to continue her career for the joy it brings her rather than out of obligation.
