Cooper Koch Opens Up About Playing Erik Menendez in Ryan Murphy's Monsters Series

Cooper Koch, the actor portraying Erik Menendez in Ryan Murphy's new crime anthology series, shared his heartfelt insights about the character in a recent interview. Koch expressed his deep connection to Erik, stating, “While preparing for the role, I developed a care for him. I really care about Erik.” He described Erik Menendez as an “amazing human being” and emphasized his belief in him.

Koch had the unique opportunity to visit Erik and Lyle Menendez in prison, an experience he described as “rewarding and special.” Reflecting on his visit to the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility, he noted that it was more “nerve-wracking” than intimidating. During his time there, Koch felt a strong sense of “camaraderie” with both brothers and expressed his support for them.

He recounted sitting in a circle with Erik and other inmates, even sharing a hug with him. Koch's visit was facilitated by Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, and Kris Jenner, who invited him to meet Erik Menendez at the San Diego facility.

The Netflix series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, explores the case of the Menendez brothers, who were convicted of murdering their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, in the 1980s. The case drew significant media attention after the brothers claimed they acted in response to years of sexual abuse.

In 1996, both brothers were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. In the series, Koch stars as Erik, with Nicholas Alexander Chavez playing Lyle, Javier Bardem as their father Jose, and Chloë Sevigny as their mother Kitty.
