Amanda Seyfried Open to Sequel as Fans Suggest Sabrina Carpenter as Sophie’s Daughter

Amanda Seyfried recently talked about the chance of a sequel to her famous 2008 musical comedy, Mamma Mia. She also addressed fans’ wishes for Sabrina Carpenter, known for her song "Espresso," to play her daughter in a potential sequel. In the original film, Seyfried portrayed Sophie Sheridan, the daughter of Meryl Streep's character, Donna Sheridan.

In a recent interview with ABC News, Amanda Seyfried spoke with Will Ganss about the potential for a third Mamma Mia! film. Seyfried responded, “Mamma Mia 3, let’s go baby,” and mentioned that while many believe it will happen, she hasn't seen a script yet.

The reporter asked Amanda Seyfried if she had seen Sabrina Carpenter perform the ABBA song "Mamma Mia" during her recent Short ‘N Sweet tour at Madison Square Garden. Ganss noted that in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, Cher and Meryl Streep played a mother-daughter duo, despite being just three years apart in age, saying, "Age is a forgettable construct in the Mamma Mia Cinematic Universe."

The reporter mentioned that people are wondering if Carpenter could play Sophie’s daughter. Seyfried responded, "Technically, she could," and added, "You’re right, it doesn’t matter."

Amanda Seyfried recognized that age is not a significant factor, mentioning she could use "old age makeup" for the role and that she's an actor willing to adapt. She said, "If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I’ll make it happen," emphasizing that she’s a "big fan" of Carpenter.
