Al Pacino Reflects on Fatherhood and Life in New Memoir 'Sonny Boy'

Al Pacino, known for his iconic roles in films like The Godfather, Scarface, and Serpico, is reflecting on what may be his most cherished role yet—being a father. In his new memoir, Sonny Boy, which releases on October 15, Pacino, 84, shares heartfelt stories about his four children: Julie, 34, Anton and Olivia, 23-year-old twins, and Roman, his 16-month-old son.

In an interview with PEOPLE, the Oscar-winning actor opened up about how fatherhood has changed him, calling it “wonderful” and saying it made him a better person. Pacino welcomed his youngest son Roman in June 2023 and described fatherhood as a “mini miracle.” He expressed how seeing his children brings him joy and fulfillment.

Pacino also hinted in an interview with The New York Times that one of the reasons he decided to write his memoir was because of Roman. In Sonny Boy, he reflects on his life journey, from growing up in a Bronx tenement to becoming one of the most celebrated actors of his time. With his signature wit, he shares behind-the-scenes stories from some of his most famous films.

Pacino admitted he hadn’t initially planned to write his memoir, but with his 85th birthday approaching, he felt it was time. Sonny Boy is available for preorder ahead of its October 15 release.
